Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body. The needles are usually left in for twenty minutes. The number of treatments needed varies depending on the duration and severity of the condition being treated. For instance, an acute injury may need only one or two treatments, while a longstanding chronic condition may need ten or more treatments. Acupuncture is most effective if treatments are received frequently, at least initially: two to three treatments per week is ideal. Only single-use disposable needles are used.
